Every afternoon, an elderly woman waves at the passing school bus. The students call her “the grandma in the window,” and say that her simple gesture of smiling and waving is always the highlight of their day.

The “grandma” in the window has been doing this for five years without missing a single day. One afternoon, the students noticed that she wasn’t there. The bus driver decided to investigate, and discovered that the woman’s name is Louise Edlen, and she had suffered from a stroke. She was put into a rehabilitation center.

The students decided to pose for a photo and wave out of the windows of the bus. Attached was a note that said:

“To the grandma in the window, we’re thinking of you. Love, the kids on bus 7 and bus driver, Carol” (Huffington Post).

The good news is, Louise has since been able to return home, and is back to spreading her love to passing students!

Sometimes, a simple wave and smile is all it takes to make a difference in someone’s day.
